Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal Georgetown, TX

What is Laser Hair Removal?

From waxing to tweezing, there are several options for removing unwanted hair but these treatments are temporary and occasionally painful. Laser hair removal changes that: Using pulses of laser light, laser hair removal is able to destroy the hair follice and reduce unwanted hair. The melanin (or pigment) in hair absorbs heat from the laser, damaging the follicle and preventing future growth.

We're especially proud to use the Lutronic Clarity II Laser platform. Unlike traditional laser hair platforms, the Clarity II platform can safely and effectively remove unwanted hair from all skin types.

What are the benefits of the Clarity II Laser Hair Removal platform?

Our team of experienced practitioners has worked with a range of laser hair removal devices, and we're committed to using the best of the best. The Clarity II Laser is safer, faster and more effective than traditional laser hair removal platforms. Here are the key benefits to using the Clarity II Laser:

  • Compared to traditional laser hair removal platforms, the Clarity II Laser works on all skin types including light and dark skin. If the hair in the treatment area is darker than the surrounding skin, it's treatable.

  • The Clarity II Laser combines two different wavelengths, the long-pulsed 755nm Alexandrite and the 1064nm Nd:YAG, which reduces the chance of complications like hyperpigmentation and burns.

  • A built-in cryogenic cooling spray helps calm the skin and minimize discomfort during treatments.

  • The Clarity II Laser utilizes IntelliTrack™ technology which allows us to treat an area nearly 2x faster while also reducing the risk of overheating and inflammation.

How many laser hair treatments will I need to notice results?

While the Clarity II Laser yields results faster than other devices, the amount of sessions needed varies among patients. In fact, patients will see a 10-20% reducation in hair per treatment. Patients generally need between 6-9 sessions, but there have been cases where patients are satisfied after only 3-4 treatments.

Factors like hair color and thickness, skin type, and any hormonal or medical problems can dictate how many sessions you'll need.

You'll also need a series of treatments because hair growth takes place in several different stages. It's not possible to damage the follice when it's in the dormant stage. The laser is most effective when hair is in its "anagen" or full-growth phase. This is why a series of treatments is typically spaced out by 4-8 weeks.

How should I prepare for a laser hair removal treatment?

Prior to a laser hair removal session, you'll want to minimize sun exposure and tanning. This includes tanning booths and spray tans. When skin is tanned, it adds more pigment and makes you more suspectible to burns during treatment.

Patients should also come to their laser hair removal appointment with clean, well-shaven skin.

How do I care for my skin after a laser hair removal treatment?

Laser hair removal temporarily increases the photosensitivity of skin, and might cause you to experience mild irriation or dryness. Here's how we typically recommend patients care for their skin after a laser hair removal session:

  • Avoid sun exposure for a week following treatment

  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to prevent additional irritation and skin damage

  • When cleansing, gently clean the skin and pat it dry (no rubbing)

  • Lotion and moisturizers can be applied 24 hours after a laser hair removal session

  • If your skin feels irritated or sunburnt, you may use over-the-counter pain relief like Tylenol

  • Cool compresses and aloe vera gel can also minimize any post-procedure irritation

  • Do not undergo any other laser treatments or chemical peels for at least 2 weeks

How long does laser hair removal last?

Laser hair removal can last anywhere from several months to several years. Permanent hair removal isn't always a guarantee, and there is a chance you might need to come in for maintenence treatments for long-term results. Typically if the hair regrows, it's finer and lighter in color

What's the difference between an IPL, Diode, and Laser?

Laser is an acronym for "light amplification by the stimulated emission of radiation." Lasers share a single wavelength. IPL stands for "intense pulse light" and it includes a collection of bright lights with multiple wavelengths. Diode uses semiconductor technology to produce a coherent projection of light in a visible infrared range. It uses a light beam with a narrow spectrum to target specific chromophores. Both wavelengths are usually more painful and less effective at hair removal than a single wavelength laser.
